OUR SERVICES - Exploration
Industrial minerals
One of the most popular subject of our assignments is exploration of industrial minerals. PolarGeo has discovered and explored:
- one of the most important and well-positioned barites deposit with 2.2 million tons of recoverable reserves (for open cast mining), or around 30% of barites reserves in Russia; full-cycle project: from discovery to detailed reserves estimation and mining works;
- more than 400 deposits of construction aggregates (sand and gravel) with total reserves exceeding 450 million tons;
- 11 deposits of limestone for cement production with total reserves exceeding 420 million tons;
- 2 gypsum deposits (17 million tons of recoverable reserves);
- 4 deposits of quartz sand with total reserves more than 15 million tons.
PolarGeo also participated in the discovery and development of Russia’s largest high purity vein quartz deposit (80% of Russian reserves).
Metals
Precious metals.
PolarGeo has created a strong pipeline of potential gold deposits in the Northern Ural, through discovery and exploration of several primary and alluvial deposits with resource potential reaching 900 tons.
Base metals.
We discovered, explored and conducted detailed reserve estimation of one of the largest manganese ore deposit in Russia. In addition, we have discovered a large group of manganese objects with total resource potential of up to 300 million tons.
We are also creating a strong platform for the copper industry in Komi Region (4 million tons of resources in copper sands and 0.7 million tons of copper ore in a copper-nickel deposit).
We have identified lead and zinc deposits with possible resources exceeding 2.2 million tons of zinc and 1.4 tons of lead.
PolarGeo has conducted a general appraisal of the bauxites deposits in the Timan province (500 million tons). We were also involved in the final appraisal of the Vorikvinsk deposit reserves (120 million tons).
Currently we are finishing exploration works on the Yarega oil-titanium deposit (largest in Russia – 278 million tons of TiO2).
In addition, PolarGeo has indentified chromites prospective in the North of Russia (resources estimation is around 40 million tons).
Coal
Russia’s second largest producing coal basin has been developed with large contribution of PolarGeo.
Since the beginning of our activity in this region we have discovered and explored deposits with total recoverable reserves exceeding 7 billion tons of steam and coking coals.
Since 2004 we have conducted exploration and reserves evaluation activities on deposits with total recoverable reserves of 634 million tons of coal.
Due to our unique experience and position in exploration of the Pechora basin, we developed our own coal exploration methodology, analytical software and interpretation techniques, which are widely used by the mining companies operating in this area.
Leveraging on our vast empirical base we are also continuously conducting regional R&D works to improve specific aspects of coal exploration science.
